EFC. from Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} C. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X.4617. Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}1/NJ31.1.24. X.4617. 40/50 H.P.Chassis - Batteries. I confirm mine Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}1/NJ28.1.24, also mine Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}4/NJ25.1.24. Yesterday afternoon Mr.Minchin of Messrs.Peto and Radford spoke to me on the 'phone, correcting a dimension given in theirs of 24th inst. and commenting on the remarks of the Chloride Electrical Storage Co. regarding terminals. This morning we have received from Peto & Radford a letter dated 30th inst. confirming the conversation by 'phone; following is copy of the letter:- "With reference to the writer's conversation on "the telephone this afternoon we are very sorry about "the error in our recent letter giving the dimensions "of the new 40/50 battery. This figure should be "3.5/32" as you state. "With regard to the point as to whether taper "terminals or screwed hexagon nut type are required, "this makes no difference to us whatever you decide, "except that with the pillar type of terminals there "is a little more head room available and we should "make the plates 1/8" taller, in which case it would "have the effect of bringing our capacity up to 79 "to 80 ampere hours. "Time is getting short if you require some of "these batteries by the end of March but we note that "you are going into the question and we shall hope to "hear something from you this week." I hope it will be possible to arrive at a definite decision at an early date with regard to the batteries; otherwise we shall not be able to get suppliers to commence delivery with the first chassis of "T" Series. We are also in receipt of a letter from the Chloride Co. dated 30th inst. as follows:- "For a set of 6 RR.5-1 cells having an actual "capacity of 79 ampere hours in 10 hours, in accordance "with our specification of January 25th and generally "in accordance with your specification, we beg to quote "the sum of £6.11.0d. (Six pounds Eleven shillings) per "battery. "It is not our intention to make any charge for "moulds or new tools. These have all been put in hand (contd) | ||
