23.12.38. 8.B.V. Bentley V.{VIENNA}

Total Miles since released for second 15,000 miles test Day's mileage 154.
5,364.

Route - Boulogne - Paris.

The whole run was on snow covered roads.

Engine.

At 50 m.p.h the engine was noticeably smoother in overdrive than direct. The cold conditions did not noticeably affect the low speed performance.

Clutch.

Much pleasanter to operate than the standard Borg & Beck and servo spring as 9.B.V.

Gearbox.

Lever sticking in gate due to dirt very bad , making engagement of second from direct very difficult.

Propellor Shaft.

Vibrations come in and out over bumps at 50-60 m.p.h.

Rear Axle.

No audible noise.

Brakes.

Hand brake ratchet stuck so that brakes could not be released due to ratchet mechanism being jammed by stone guard. Brakes otherwise very good under conditions encountered.

Suspension.

Ride good. Damper control not functioning correctly as rod mechanism had been damaged due to lack of ground clearance.

Steering.

Small amplitude joggles on very bad surfaces, otherwise very good.
