Private. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Lp.{Mr Lappin} Y8774 Lp{Mr Lappin}6/Av/D23.2.29. Dear Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, We had a full day yesterday on 10-EX in an effort to visit Cheltenham, Yeovil, Yate and Bristol and get back to London last night. Firstly, the main petrol pipe from tank failed close to filter and involved considerable delay and the carriage of myself on the carrier of a motor-bike to the only shop in Slough which could provide me with a piece of rubber tubing to carry on, namely Woolworth's Stores. I have, therefore, appointed Messrs. Woolworths Official Repairers to the Company. As 'F' Engines at Andover are running on anti-freezing mixture, I took an opportunity of filling the car up with same and it seemed to function quite satisfactorily, with the exception that there seemed to be an unexplainable tendency to boil. This occurred on this trip and on inspecting the water system it appeared that the pump was not functioning at all, so we dismantled same on the road and found it to be O.K. On filling up it still had a tendency to boil, but finally, after topping up during the 100 mile run several times, the engine temperature settled down to its usual stable condition. I thought you would like to know this as it appears that the freezing mixture may have corroded the radiator in some way, but I cannot offer any satisfactory explanation of the behaviour of the engine. In the meantime, we have covered a lot of ground and did a lot of very good work with the help of this excellent motor-car, which with the exception of a few trifling defects is a credit to all concerned. Yours sincerely, Lp{Mr Lappin} | ||
