Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation} NW.{N. Walker - Patents}3/VL.{V. Lewis / Mr Valentine}14.12.39. PROTUBERANCE ON PISTON. APPLN. NO. 37227/38. File Referring to our 'phone conversation of this morning, we send herewith the draft Complete Specification together with our Agent's letter of the 11th instant and a copy of our earlier patent 505895. The pencil notes on the draft specification are our own. We believe there would be no harm - rather the reverse - in our showing the ignition plug in Fig.3 as the Agents suggest. We already have a claim, namely claim 3, which covers the arrangement regardless of the ignition plug position. You will notice that we have had added, on page 3, the reference you suggested some time ago regarding the compression ratio, fuel and detonation. With regard to the feature that parts of the combustion chamber and of the protuberance lie in a plane parallel to the axis of the cylinder, you will notice that we have suggested qualifying this by saying that this is "substantially" parallel to the axis. We have in mind a fairly recent specification of, we believe, Taube's, in which corresponding co-axial surfaces were definitely inclined to the axis of the cylinder. At the moment we are not able to put our hands on a copy of this specification. Perhaps you have it. Please let us have these papers back as soon as possible. N.W. | ||
