Letter inquiring about the use of plain silichrome exhaust valves on stellited seats to prevent valve burning.

Dear Sirs, We understand from Mr. Robotham that during his last visit to you he was informed that you were using plain silichrome exhaust valves running on stellited seats. This is very interesting as we cannot get away with any material of exhaust valve unless it is stellited since the introduction of leaded fuels. Our seats are normally the head material, namely 1/C though on the Phantom III which has aluminium heads W/MC seats are used and in both cases we get very little trouble on the actual seats but burning of the valves if the latter are not stellited. We should be interested to know if it is the stellited seat that enables you to get away with an unstellited valve or the fact that prior to stelliting your trouble was confined to the seat and not the valve.
