Identifier  ExFiles\Box 30\1\  Scan130
Date  7th March 1935

Chassis. -2- HyS/R.7.3.35.

SPECTRECodename for Phantom III SUSPENSION.

Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} reported good progress with the variable rating and distinct progress has been made as regards negotiating hump-backed bridges and similar obstructions.

SPECTRECodename for Phantom III GROUND CLEARANCE.

Referring to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RmS/KW28.2.35. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said the SpectreCodename for Phantom III is designed as a low car and if a low car is to be obtained clearance such as is obtained on the Cadillac cannot be given. If big clearance is required a higher car will result and a high car is not considered to be desirable from a selling point of view. If Experimental Dept. will be satisfied with a three inch bump instead of four inch the inch saved can be added to the clearance.

Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} agreed to this provisionally and will discuss the matter further with E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}

SPECTRECodename for Phantom III CARBURETTERS.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} asked if the SpectreCodename for Phantom III could be arranged for two carburetters only and mentioned the disadvantages of the present arrangement. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will look into this.

SPECTRECodename for Phantom III GEAR BOX.

Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said the gear box is still not quiet enough although the gears themselves are very good.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the roller bearings which are noisy before being fitted to the box even though they have been specially selected and only the best of those supplied have been used.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said that arrangements are being made to substitute ball bearings for comparative tests.

THIRD SPECTRECodename for Phantom III CAR.

RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} estimated completion of the chassis by March 29th.

Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said that this chassis should be built so that it will be of a suitable specification to send to France at an early date.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} will go over the specification with this in view.
