X.3462 RE MICHELIN DISC WHEELS.
Handwritten: X.15

We continue to receive instructions to fit Michelin Disc wheels. As pointed out in our previous memos, as far as producing the Rolls-Royce scheme for the fixed hub is concerned, this has been definitely understood that if we receive instructions to fit Michelin Disc wheels, the only policy open to us is that the Order Office should place an order for the complete unit fixed hub as well as Detachable Disc, with the Michelin Company.

Such a policy as that referred to seems to me to be radically wrong, as particularly in the case of the wheel, the reliability of the car may be seriously affected.

We can only pressume that since orders for wheels are still being accepted by Sales, that some customers are determined to have the Michel Wheel, even against our recommendation, and that under these circumstances we should warn the customer that we can take absolutely no responsibility in such matters as the fitting of these wheels is likely to affect.

There is just the possibility however that the orders for Michelin wheels which have come through up to the moment are those which have been received and accepted before our recent decision to turn the Michel wheel down. If this is so, we would like to have Sales' comments as to whether in such cases we are to fit the standard Dunlop wire wheels or not.
