6119 EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}12/JH. 28th. February, 1939. Messrs. Delco Remy & Hyatt Ltd., 111, Grosvenor Road, LONDON. S.W.1. For the attention of Mr. B. Rushton. Dear Sirs, We are returning under separate cover one of three distributors which have failed on customers cars due to excessive play between the shaft and housing. This, it is alleged, has caused bad misfiring, due to the contact finger at times not opening. This particular distributor has only done about 500 miles and you will notice that the shaft at one point is slightly oval, due we suggest to cross bearing caused by a bent shaft. What amount of play between shaft and housing would you consider permissible? It has been suggested that any further units having this excessive wear, should be bushed both at the top and the bottom of the housing. We shall be pleased to receive your comments on the above and any suggestions for dealing with this trouble If you would like to investigate still further in the matter I shall be pleased to co-operate with you. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
