H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/Cy.1/LS.28.6.37. RE STOVE ENAMELLING OF BENTLEY & 25/30.HP. CYLINDER BLOCKS. We have now received our Laboratory report on the above, and this confirms our previous remarks that the enamelling itself is satisfactory. We attach a copy of the Laboratory report, which indicates that the jointing material is at the root of the trouble. On further investigation we find that the material was changed from 'Vellumoid' to 'Gascoid' about November 1935, to show a saving in cost from 3/6d. each to 1/- each. This was requested by O.O. to BY/EM. who gave authority for the change, after consulting the Laboratory. The D.O. (BY/CS.) were apparently not advised of this change, as the drawing still calls for Vellumoid. We still buy in Vellumoid for Repair department at a cost of 2/9d. each. Will all concerned please instruct for this joint to be mad in 'Vellumoid' in future, and scrap all 'Gascoid' joints, and thus avoid complaints being made respecting cars delivered after this date. Retrospective action should be taken in regard to cars at Coachbuilders by fitting Vellumoid joints. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/Cy. | ||
