Our cars sometimes give trouble owing to piston rings sticking in the grooves. This occurs sometimes when the engine has got rather foul owing to over lubrication or when some foreign substance has got into the rim. If such sticking comes on with use this is generally the case and can be cured by supplying a syringe full of oil through the extra oil supply pipe. By withdrawing the set screw at the end of the pipes near No.1 Cylinder a syringe inserted and parrafin forced onto the cylinder walls whilst engine running light, car standing, without interfering with the actual oil supply causes the rings to work more satisfactorily and overcomes the "clapping" noise Contd.
