At the moment the transmission is directly connected to the engine but I explained that we found it very convenient to be able to run and warm up the engine, the boat being out of the water. This was accomplished on the Miss England boats by fitting a dog clutch.

I found that Mr. Scott-Paine was most anxious to avail himself of any information we could let him have and I formed the impression that his heart and soul were in the job.

I was greatly impressed with the layout of his works and the manner in which the boats were turned out.
