NORTH & SONS Ltd. Continuation Sheet No. 1. Messrs Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. 11th January 1929. R.O.1. MAGNETO NO. 105629. TEST REPORT. AS RECEIVED. LOW SPEED. 250 Advance. 200 Retard. LEAK ON R.R. STANDARD LEAK GAP 1800 R.P.M. on Retard. No spark on Advance. -------------------- C.B. RETARDED 40° LOW SPEED. 150 Advance. 135 Retard. LEAK ON R.R. STANDARD LEAK GAP. 950 R.P.M. on Retard. 1800 R.P.M. on Advance. "O.K" up to 4,000 R.P.M. The timing on the R.O.1 Magneto is critical but on further investigation it was found that the leak test closely followed the low speed performance Therefore it was necessary to check the low speed carefully to ensure a uniform leak test result. The safety gap was set at 5 3/4 m/m instead of 6m/m which has always been our setting for the R.O.1.Magneto. Upon further investigation it was found that the electrode screw had not been polished; this would account for the low sparking voltage of this gap. | ||
