Report on Ebonite washers to replace fibre one under air valve. I.705.

We have run several of these on cars, I can find no advantage in them. It is still possible to screw the air valve up so tight that it is necessary to knock it to get it undone. I do not agree that it is the fibre absorbing moisture which causes the trouble, when an engine is running this washer is quite hot and all moisture in it would soon be dried up. My reason for the trouble is that it is very much easier to screw the air valve up than to unscrew it, in screwing it up one grips the knurled ring at the top and with this it is possible to screw up very tight, when it is unscrewed the top ring unscrews first and leaves the rest of the air valve in the carburettor, it is then awkward to get hold of and smaller in diameter.

I think the only way to get over the difficulty is to have a positive lock on the air valve.
