44707 Exptl. Dept. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson}12/KW.131134. 13th November, 1934. F.F. Kishline, Esq., Graham-Paige Motors Corp., Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. Dear Mr. Kishline, A line to let you know how the Graham is running. Generally speaking the supercharger itself has given us no trouble. The worm drive is of course somewhat noisy and we have had to strengthen up the rubber couplings in the shaft with the result, as you predicted, that the gear drive has become slightly more noisy. We should be interested to know whether you have made any improvements on this drive and if so, whether you could invoice the improved parts to us, as we should like to keep this car as quiet as possible. The only other troubles we have had are two blown head gaskets, and the timing chain which jumped a tooth. We think the blown gaskets are rather serious as we have not driven the car hard. We have purposely done a number of cold starts at about 27°F.{Mr Friese} and the car has behaved satisfactorily. There is a slight tendency to load up from extreme cold conditions, but this does not seem to be as bad as one might reasonably expect. The slow running is of course poor; we are not sure that we are getting the results we may expect in this respect, and shall be glad to know what idling standard is reasonable. | ||
