three contact surfaces, two of copper and one of metal which looks like platinum, on which the break will be taken. Each of the two copper contact surfaces is as large as that provided on the C.A.V. type.

Further remarks on this in next report.

Later.

Having been delayed in the sending out of this report for want of prints of the curves, we have been able to obtain some results of the smaller of the two machines, and comparison of these results with those of the larger machine and with the Lucas E.575 dynamo is given on the second sheet of curves. It will be seen that the characteristic curves of the two machines are similar. The comparison of the Lucas curve with those of the two Smith's is interesting. Due consideration should be taken of the fact that weights of the T & M dynamos include the special cradle fitted to the dynamo, which itself weighs 4.75 lbs.

The scheme of the smaller dynamo is practically identical with that of the larger one, and is represented by the same diagram. We propose returning the smaller dynamo straight away to the makers and keeping the larger one for a complete tests. The smaller machine seemed to run considerably sweeter than the larger, and it was noted that the commutation at high speeds was very much better.
