| 6092. Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /RC. {R. Childs} 5/MH. {M. Huckerby} 26th. November 1937. Messrs. Joseph Lucas Ltd., Great King Street, Birmingham. For the attention of Mr. Toulmin. Dear Sirs, During the recent visit of your Mr.C.E.Robinson it was agreed that we should make certain investigations on the bench with respect to:- (1) Finding a suitable value of regulator contact-points resistance. (2) The confirmation, or otherwise, of the low output at 13 volts, of a regulator by re-testing. (3) The characteristic of the regulator whereby, for a given setting of the load resistance, an increase in the dynamo current is obtained, when a battery is connected. These items are dealt with in detail below, together with the results obtained by us. (i) Using our present standard 5" dynamo, scheme 1072, (field-winding resistance 6.28 w):- (a) It was first ascertained what value of external resistance was necessary to limit the dynamo terminal voltage to 16.0 volts with the machine on open circuit up to a speed of 6,500 r.p.m., in both the cold (20°C) and hot | ||
