(Dict. 8th) Dear Sirs, In reply to your letter of the 4th instant regarding weights of various 6.50-16 covers, average figures are shown below for the types enumerated :- Lbs. Ozs. Fort F-4T pattern. 32 8 Standard (present pattern). 26 12 Special 4-ply casing with Fort tread ........ 30 0 The reason for the fairly wide margin between the Standard and the special 4-ply cover is due to the fact that although the casings of the two tyres are identical, in view of the heavier tread it was considered advisable to make certain modifications in the constructional details of the "undertread" and bead. In the event of this tyre being required for a car with a high performance which is liable to be used abroad under sustained conditions of high speed, it might be advisable to consider the introduction of a special tyre.
