Phantom III Ignition Distributor Contact Point Adjustment. The normal setting for the contact breaker gaps on the Phantom III distributor is .030". Care should be taken that this gap is accurately set as maladjustment affects the functioning of the ignition considerably more than the Phantom II, or the 25/30 and Bentley chassis. If the gap on one set of points is set to .020" it would make the engine timing on 6 cylinders 8° late and if it is increased to .040 the timing would be 17° earlier and the period of "make" for the ignition coil would be insufficient for satisfactory ignition. The recommended limits for the contact points are .028" to .030". Care should also be taken to ensure that each breaker is synchronised in exact angular relation with each other and this should be checked whenever a contact lever is changed or if the bakelite rubbing block on one lever wears considerably more than the other. A special tool for this operation is being instructed by the Design office. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. | ||
