X1070 Exptl. Dept. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}12/KW. 28th October,1935. F.O. Hickling Esq., The Ransome & Marles Bearing Co.Ltd., Newark-on-Trent. Dear Hickling, We are sending you a 35 m.m. bearing which has run a small mileage on the road and about 6 hours on the dynamometer while testing the back axle. The thrust load for 20 minutes on bottom gear was of the order of 10,000 lbs., and the journal load about 80% of this. As this was the only part of the axle that failed during the test, we shall be glad to have your views as to whether you can increase the capacity of the thrust half of this bearing without altering the external dimensions. Will you let us have the bearing back when you have finished with it. Yours sincerely, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
