Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}5/ML.8.3.40. NOTES ON A VISIT TO VAUXHALL MOTORS. LUTON. PURPOSE. To further check up on their Experimental work on carburation, ignition and Fuel Economy generally, and to get a line on their present trend of development. RESULT. This is the third visit made by me to the Vauxhall Experimental Dept., for the same purpose as stated above. Previous visits are reported in:- (1) Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}11/R.8.7.37. and (2) Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}19/JH.30.6.39. They have done no development in connection with the problem since the war started; and as the previous visit was made only two months before this, they have little to show which is new. However, we have ourselves found that our ignition system is now the main limiting factor towards maintaining the economy setting found possible by such modifications as smaller induction pipes, smaller chokes and increased heat on the gallery. Points raised with the Vauxhall people centred around the ignition problems therefore. Nine months ago, they were very confident about first results they were then obtaining by using longer reach plugs. - Continued - | ||
