With reference to EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/T51/O24.3.20, in which you point out that you are unable to incorporate the latest design of split aluminium piston, the position of the matter is as follows:-

Efforts were made to standardise this in January and the Standardisation Sheet was signed by all concerned except Mr. Johnson who remarked.

"Proceed with expenditure but do not standardise until 10,000 miles run."

I understand that the works are proceeding with these pistons ready for adoption as soon as the necessary conditions are fulfilled, but I am not sure whether any pistons have proceeded far enough, for them to be able to supply you with a set for this car. If a set can be urged through in time, I think it is desirable that this should be done. Mr. Bailey will tell you whether this can be arranged.
