Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 85310 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re 20/25 HP Synchromesh Gearbox. Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} I am in receipt of Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/MJ.29.4.32 and note information given. When writing to you the other day I was under the impression that the gearbox had not done a 10,000 mile test. I did not search back in the files very far and rather assumed the above from the remarks made in your memo. of the 21st January. The detailed report after 9,500 miles in France seems to speak very well of the gearbox - in fact it does not even refer to the top gear coming out. With regard to the trouble being experienced with production cars of the third speed coming out of mesh, I had assumed from what I heard at Derby last week that the trouble was more serious than appears to be the case. With regard to the last paragraph of your memo. I fully appreciate the difficulties which we have been up against in regard to matters of this description and with regard to this gearbox in particular I think that the speed at which it has been produced, tested and got into production is particularly gratifying.
