TESTS ON HEAT FLOW TO THE COOLING WATER WITH EXHAUST BACK PRESSURE TAKEN ON 'EAC' ENGINE. The following experiments were made in order to determine if the heat flow to the cooling water increased when the exhaust back pressure was increased. These tests were confined to a speed of 1500 r.p.m. The swan neck outlet was blanked and the back pressure adjusted by means of the cutout butterfly valve at the end of the silencer. Three tests were taken :- (A) Variation of heat flow with the power output as the throttle opening was varied - free exhaust - cutout open, and a constant speed of 1500 r.p.m. As the throttle opening was decreased the speed was maintained by reducing the load on the brake. (B) Variation of heat flow with power output as the back pressure is increased, the speed remaining constant. Taken at full throttle. As the back pressure increased the speed was maintained by reducing the load. (C) Variation of heat flow with back pressure, the speed and power output remaining constant. As the back pressure was increased the power and speed were kept the same by open- ing up the throttle and adjusting the load. For each of these tests is appended a curve and from these we get the following information :- contd :- | ||
