r 3066. To Wor. {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} From Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 5/MJ.19.9.33. With reference to the attached (G {Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} /Rb. {R. Bowen} 19/M /139A/1/P.15933. The increase in cost of the R.R. shunt dynamo is due to the addition of the voltage regulator. The voltage regulator costs 34/-. It is also essential with this scheme to use a more expensive type of ammeter, which costs a further 6/-. This accounts for £2 of the £2. 1. 8d. increase. The other increase is due to additions to the instrument board to carry the regulator. The possible saving is to leave off the ammeter, this costs about 17/6d. We have taken this matter up and attached herewith is the correspondence which shews that although there is no real technical reason for the ammeter it is thought to be a refinement we should retain. The only other chance of reducing the cost is to tackle C.A.V. as regards their 34/- charge for the voltage regulator. We think this is high and we are endeavouring to get this price reduced.
