FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Copy to - HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EXPERIMENT WITH SALERNI COUPLING. X4510 Herewith we send N. scheme 2899, a drawing shewing the space available, and the pieces necessary to incorporate a Salerni coupling in 14-EX. (EAC. 7.) This is regarded as an urgent experiment as a good deal depends upon it. As arranged it is intended to have a new gearbox casting with slight modifications to the rear end. We are also asking you to provide an extra cross member similar to the standard Phantom. The servo and drive, and the rear brake differentials are existing Phantom. It will be seen that a new 3rd. motion shaft is required for the gearbox. We suggest that the procedure should be that you should detail the various pieces of this scheme, and when they are ready send them to Mr. Salerni. In the meanwhile he will be working on a print of this drawing which we shall send him, and which will enable him to see whether what we have provided is suitable. We may say that we have discussed the whole thing with him, and he has substantially agreed to this arrangement. Ultimately, when the scheme as a whole has been approved it will be necessary for us to make all, or most of the details shewn on this drawing. As the drawings we have about EAC. 7. here are very scrappy, some of them being LeCs., we should be much obliged if you would check our scheme against the actual EAC. 7. pieces. For instance we are somewhat doubt-ful about the exact position and shape of the cross member. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
