4336 To Ey. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Mths.{Reg Matthews}1/JH.19.10.36. Phantom III Piston Rings. Further to our memo. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Mths.{Reg Matthews}19/JH.7.8.36. in which we called for an increase in the closed gap of Phantom III Piston rings. we now think it advisable since the Wellworthy Piston Ring Co. require approx. 1/4d per ring more due to the closer limits they have to work to, altering the gap to .008 +-2. this will -2- ensure that the ring gap is neither too close nor excessive and at the same time overcoming the increase in price.
