X484 RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} c.Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY/EM6/J.6.10.32. Propeller Shafts - G.100781A. We attach hereto a copy of a letter we have received from Messrs. Tubes Limited, with respect to the above propeller shafts from which you will see that they claim to have produced propeller shafts to the above piece number and that the greatest variation of thickness of material in the tubes is .004". The three tubes to piece number G.100781A are at present in the Stores and we have instructed G/Mt. to hand same over to you, but the other three tubes to piece number G.100844, we have not yet located and these will be sent along as soon as they are received. We shall be glad if you will kindly arrange to have the tubes mentioned above tested on your rig, and we shall be pleased to have a report in due course as to whether these are now considered to be suitable. We are of the opinion that these tubes are as accurate as we can expect to obtain same if produced by drawing and swaging and if these are not found to be sufficiently accurate, we can only suggest that the suppliers commence with a thicker tube of greater diameter and grind same down to the correct diameter before commencing to swage the ends which undoubtedly would be a very much more costly proposition. We shall be glad to have your report in due course. GRY{Shadwell Grylls} BY/EM. | ||
