Dear Mr. West,

Your ref. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.3/MA.

Thank you for your letter of May 28th.

I do not know the C.F. sparking plug, at any rate under that name, but I am immediately writing to our Italian Agent asking him to obtain a sample for me so that I can examine it and discuss it with you.

I am very anxious to get some information about the bar form of earth point of which I sent you a sample some two or three weeks ago. You will remember this is a flat bar across the mouth of the plug which is sheared in the middle to facilitate adjustment and lies across the flat end of the electrode.

I was over at Napiers yesterday and saw Mr. Tryon who has been running plugs with this form of point in his experimental units. He has got quite an extraordinary length of life out of it and he showed me some plugs which have been running for over one hundred and fifty hours, the last fifty hours under very heavy duty, without any adjustment at all.

This form of point is certainly interesting, but I do not know what its breakdown voltage is. If you could let me have your findings on this point in comparison with the breakdown voltage of the V.7/1 and the 744 it would be of great assistance to me.
