6002 Experimental Department 12th November 1936. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.19/AP. Messrs Smith & Sons (Motor Accessories) Ltd., Cricklewood Works, LONDON N.W.2. For the attention of Mr.C.W.Nichols. Dear Sirs, Further to our letter of yesterday, we have looked into the extra cost of rubber mounting our thermometer bulb as we do at present, and find that it is considerably less than the 2/- per instrument extra which you say the flexible capillary connection will cost us. While we should like to use your flexible capillary and dispense with the rubber scheme, we do not consider it justifies the extra cost. We should like to know whether this 2/- increase represents the minimum charge which you can make for this small diameter capillary if we were to standardise it on all our instruments. Will you please therefore hold up the order which we sent you yesterday for two thermometers ( to D.75213 and DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}158) with this special feature, until we have settled whether the small diameter capillary can be made acceptable from a cost standpoint. An early reply would be very much appreciated, Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
