Contd. from Sheet 5. SHEET 6. TEST NO. IV. contd :- TROUBLES. MILEAGE. CAUSE OR REMEDY. Main cyl. extra oil pipe broken. 1433 Two side steering tube springs broken. 1488 New type springs fitted. Exhaust valve spring broken. 2950 2 side steering tube springs broken. 1799 " " " " " " " " 2981 " " " Induction pipe cracked. 2981 Hartford shock absorber arms buckled. 4534 Car driven at high speed over Cassis. No. 6 cyl. extra oil pipe broken. 4788 Faulty brazing. Front spring broken (top leaf) 5125 R.R. spare wheel carrier broken - bolts continually stretching. 7757 Carriers too weak - condemned. Front spring broken. (top leaf). 8888 Step iron broken. 9844 Probably due to carrying large spare tin of petrol and battery on running board. Hartford shock absorber - wooden bushes failed 10352 TOTAL MILEAGE - 10,352 - at average speed of 39.6 m.p.h. All brake parts examined after test. Very little wear taken place. Excessive wear on front brake actuating shafts and front brake equaliser, otherwise in very good condition. Slight wear in steering nut, but not excessive. Silchome valves (steel) were used in this engine and run with no tappet clearance. They were not touched during the test and were in excellent condition afterwards. No jaggers occurred after brake drums were turned down. Servo adjustment during test - nil. Rear brakes required re-lining after test. Very little wear on front brake shoes. Dynamo on engine gave no trouble and is a vast improvement. | ||
