Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c.c. EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} c.c. ET. c.c. Wos. X7420 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}7/H3.7.30. re. PHANTOM II. SQUEAKY BRAKES. As discussed with you this morning, the position of the above both with regard to new chassis delivered from the Works and new cars delivered from Coachbuilders to customers is as bad as ever. The only thing at present we seem to be able to do to overcome this trouble is by doping, which I consider is most unsatisfactory, as it does not last any length of time. The various suggestions which have been made in regard to the question of bedding, damping etc. have been carried out, but these do not seem to be reliable or definite cure, and a considerable amount of time is now being spent with cars on test to improve the chassis in this respect, but in spite of all this, we do not appear to have obtained a real cure for the trouble. There should be no need for you to ask us to send you a further sample of cars giving this trouble, as the trouble exists on your own Experimental Car i.e. 20-EX. I consider that this feature is one which should receive your urgent attention as I am sure that some action will shortly have to be taken retrospectively in regard to customers' complaints in this respect. The only alternative to this at present I feel would be to stop the output. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} [Stamp: RECEIVED 11 JUL 1930] | ||
