Bentley Motors (1931) Ltd. Derby Sr/Col/AD/31.5.35. To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} In reply to your memo Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}I/KW.28.5.35., we confirm that it is possible to enter an engine into France under Temporary Admission, on condition that same is to be fitted to a car running under triptyque. The two important points are that the papers of the car are presented to the Customs to obtain Temporary Admission of the engine, and that both engines are re-exported at the same time. In other words, when the car leaves France, the Temporary Admission Acquit is cancelled, on condition that the Customs authorities are in a position to check that the dismantled engine does not stay in France, and that the second engine has actually been fitted to the car. For your information, the engine in question could be sent in the usual way through Messrs Hernu, Peron & Stockwell Ltd. or General Transport Co. with instructions to obtain Temporary Admission, as being intended for a car under triptyque. Replying to the third paragraph of your memo, we do not think any duty will have to be paid, because of the mileage covered, at least we have never been requested to pay anything for parts sent to Chateauroux.
