Discussion of possible timing gear and camshaft drive schemes for the B60 engine.

-2- The various schemes possible for the B60 are:- 1. Metal timing gears: This is a step backwards and likely to be noisy. 2. Chain Camshaft Drive: In this case the camshaft would have to be fully located either by two way thrust faces or by reversing the direction of the thrust, the latter alternative being the best. 3. Wraith spring drive: To determine whether or not the chain will stand up, I suggest that the engine allocated for endurance should be fitted with a suitable chain and a fully located camshaft either by reversing the helical angle of the oil pump and distributor gears or by providing a forward thrust face to P.L.7 or to E.CD-1529.
