(S8) - 3 - BYL/G.26.8.29. previous instructions to the extent of recommending the addition of 1 1/2 ozs. of sodium phosphate to the water system after the radiator had been thoroughly cleaned/by the method previously described using 5% solution of caustic soda. We are certain from our experiments that this simple scheme of the addition of sodium phosphate will eliminate all trouble in the future, judging by the effect of the sodium phosphate on aluminium and iron in contact with one another in a boiling water solution. We therefore propose to get out a pamphlet which we suggest should be circulated to owners of all chassis from the beginning of F.2B onwards, which will make the following concrete proposals and describe how they are to be carried out :- 1/- Method of washing out radiator only in position on the chassis with 5% solution of soda. 2/- Thoroughly swilling out at the same time the engine cooling system as distinct from the radiator. 3/- Filling up with distilled water or rain water. 4/- Finally adding to the system whilst the engine is running and the water hot 1 1/2 ozs. of sodium phosphate.
