Re oil leak from front end of gearbox, this has not been cured. We are now of the opinion that this is taking place where the first motion shaft comes through cover. We are endeavouring to locate it, but have been misled by the portion round the shaft being clean, and in a more or less dry state, and all round the cover swimming with oil. We are going to jack the car up this evening, when the car comes in, whilst the oil is still very hot, to try definitely to locate it.

I have been looking at the drawings, and they shew a screw here for retaining the oil in the box, but they do not shew any drain for same. We also notice by the drawings that the mesh of the gears come right opposite the balls of the race, and it looks very much as if the oil is being squirted out of the gears straight through the balls of the front ball race, and that consequently the screw cannot cope with it. We will try to give you more definite information at a later date.

Re springs sent out, we notice that there are two 600 lb. springs. We should be much obliged if you would let us know if these springs are actually stronger than those recently fitted, the springs taken off being 600 and 650 lbs. 1 & 1/2% stronger. Do you require the broken portion of the top leaf sent to Derby ?

We have received a letter from Ml. Société anme. des Huiles "Castrol", Paris, addressed to Mr. Lidsey, re two barrels of Castrol "XL" oil, which were despatched from Paris on the 11th inst. We cannot understand why this should be addressed to Mr. Lidsey, as it was only by the merest chance that we received this letter. Generally, letters addressed to persons not residing at the hotel, are returned.

Will you please forward us a good supply of Time Sheets, as our stock is running low now that we have so many men here. We should also like a Log Book for tyres, if you have received these.

S.S.Hancock.

P.S. We read that you have got the Heat Wave in England. We have got double the heat wave here.
