Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} } FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} } c. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} X7770 ADDITION TO R1/M31.8.30. P.2. RADIATOR X.7770 X.7258 X.3499 Referring to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}'s report on radiator shutter friction, and the suggestion of a closing spring, I think it would be a great mistake to fit a spring for the purpose of getting the shutters to close against the unknown friction of bearings due to corrosion, tightness, or want of alignment. I am looking into the modifying of the design of the lower bearing to avoid this fault. In the meantime the length of the bearing should be shortened, the clearance increased, and the support stiffened, as suggested by me on the standardisation sheet. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
