1360 September 20th 1937 RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}10/AP. Mr.P.Berthon, E.R.A.Ltd., Bourne, Dear Sir, Regarding the question of most efficient Stelliting, this to a large degree depends upon the skill of the operator. We give herewith some of the points with regard to the process which may be of assistance to you. (1) Our experience is mainly confined to Stelliting as applied to KE.905 valves. (2) Haynes Grade V1.Stellite is used. (3) Stellite rod of not more than 3/16. dia. should be used. Sections in excess of this make the molten Stellite sluggish and pasty. If the Stellite in your possession is in excess of 3/16. dia. then it is advisable to recast to the smaller dimension in a 90° groove in a steel block by means of an oxy-acetylene flame. (4) In applying the Stellite to the valve, a flame having a slight excess of acetylene is used as shown - the torch nozzle most satisfactory for the job is No.4. and manufactured by the British Oxygen Co. continued | ||
