PLEASE REFER TO AVIATION DEPT. AND QUOTE REFERENCE LM/KGB. IN YOUR REPLY Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited, Nightingale Road, DERBY. Fifth February 1937. Gentlemen, FOR THE ATTENTION OF H.E.WEST ESQ. - Your ref: Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wst.11/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Further to our letter of the 3rd instant in reply to yours of the 2nd; the two plugs arrived here this morning and we are rather at a loss to account for the condition in which they are in. As you know, the type, so far as the centre electrode is concerned, is identical to type 868, which has successfully met the requirements of the “MERLIN” engine under high duty conditions. We therefore beg to request that you be so good as to furnish us with details of the engine conditions under which these two 893B plugs have been running - compression ratio, B.M.E.P., R.P.M. and petrol consumption. This information will be of very great assistance in enabling us to definitely determine whether the design of the plug is faulty. In the meantime, we are sending you herewith two plugs of this type which you have requested and, upon receipt of your reply to this letter we will complete our investigation and let you have a fully detailed report. Yours faithfully, p.p. K.L.G. SPARKING PLUGS LIMITED. Assistant Aviation Manager. | ||
