1020 Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}3/MH.{M. Huckerby} 12th. April, 1939. Messrs. Vandervell Products Ltd., Western Avenue, Park Royal, LONDON, W.3. For the attention of Mr. Johnson. Dear Sirs, Our endurance on the 3-layer main bearings (2.500 crank) is now in progress and in the course of the next few days will have a comparative result against the Whitemetal bearings, which previously ran under the same condition. In the meantime, however, we would like for trial some big end bearings in the same 3-layer material. We enclose a drawing of a connecting rod Ex.29697/A which was used in connection with the trial of flangeless big ends Ex.29698, which are suitable for adapting your strip type of big end. No doubt there will be certain modifications necessary in order to house your big ends both in respect of wall thickness and slots for locating the bearings, and would be obliged for your recommendations. It will be seen on Ex.29698 that the bolt centres locally break through the side of the rod slightly with a .062 wall thickness. Regard the running clearance, we will leave this to you, the crankpin diameter being 1.999. -2- | ||
