MARLES WELLER STEERING. Replying to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}14/..19.6.33. The Marles Weller steering in which we found the cracked balls was the one which had been run on the bumper test for 50 hours. The steering which has been on 58-GX. was recently dismantled and generally it was in excellent condition. There were signs of a slight crack on one ball but this was not considered serious and the steering has been put together in the same condition and fitted to 104 MY. Even if the balls crack the steering still functions satisfactorily. We have discussed this failure with the makers and on a further steering which they are supplying us for the Bentley car, a modification has been made. We are looking forward to the prospect of being able to introduce these steering on the Bentley at some future date. It will enable us to gain experience with them and get a nice slice off the cost.
