SECRET 1381. COSTS Les.12/B.25.7.39. MINUTES OF CHASSIS CONFERENCE HELD IN THE BOARD ROOM 24th JULY, 1939. PRESENT - Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} (Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}) RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Ls. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/JRD. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/McC. BENTLEY V.{VIENNA} MATERIAL DELAY By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} stated that in order to prevent delay in the O.P. Dept. and tracings leaving the Tracing Stores, it was essential that there should be a separate Print Stores for use by the O.P. Dept. and the Tool Office. This would require to be kept up in a similar manner to the Print Stores now used in the D.O. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} promised to investigate this matter. The following further points were raised by By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} and agreed to by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}- 1. Issue of prints to the Works to be separated, i.e. one person for Aero and another for Chassis. 2. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} will detail a person to progress all items in the D.O. 3. Instructions for ordering will be sent direct to the O.O.; drawings to be sent direct to the O.P. Dept. attached to Wld/JF's copy of order instructions. 4. The O.P. Dept. to deal with items in order of their urgency. Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} pointed out that the delay in the O.P.Dept. was not the main cause of the shortage of B.V material, which was due to late releases from the D.O. He pointed out that over 90% of the parts still not delivered for the first 12 chassis, had not been released by the scheduled date (end of March). For example, certain bakelite covers were not released until 13th May, 1939. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} stated that B.V material delay was due to the fact that schedules had not been strictly adhered to. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} stated that a list of the times required for delivery of such pieces as bakelite mouldings should be available so that alternative pieces could be instructed when time was limited. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} was not particularly upset by the fact that B.V was behind the schedule, but wanted everybody to make certain that similar delays did not happen in the future. | ||
