(J) Petrol Tank. In regard to the petrol tank, which was the other issue raised in this cable, everybody over here were under the impression, from cables and letters received, that America were not attempting to produce the standard tank, but had made up their minds to definitely hold out for the modified design containing a gauge, side filler and emergency supply, and BY's cable, No.225 was designed to help them out on the understanding that they were determined to have a new design of tank, and not to impose a restriction of manufacture. We are only too pleased to fall in with the American suggestions in this cable, that America produce the present standard tank and would like to point out that we recommended this policy in our cable of June 17th.
In regard to this item, if required, Derby would be prepared to help out America by despatching completed tank, but it would have to be at the expense of Derby output. We consider, however, that a drop of 5 chassis per week involved by one item would cover Derby where other items on which we are similarly short are despatched.

(k) Wiring. As pointed out under the heading of Dynamos the much earlier date of production in America entirely prohibits the use of the Smith Dynamo on the first 100 chassis. In consequence of this the wiring therefore is not altered and America have:-
(1) Complete drawings showing all the wiring.
(2) A complete specification of each type of cable.
(3) Samples of each type of cable.
There should therefore be no difficulty in their going ahead on this section.

(l) Gauges. In addition to the above Derby will despatch Pressure Gauges for Oil and Fuel, in similar quantities to the other parts. Mr.Royce having examined an American gauge does not agree that this may be fitted, but definitely stipulates that our present standard English gauge must be used.

For Electrical equipment we propose supplying 100 sets to be despatched as above stated, if America want us to produce more we would like them to advise us as soon as they can. In the event of them not requiring so many would they give us early notice.

We note from cable received that America have decided to produce the following electrical equipment themselves:-
