S/W...Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} C15/C8.1.35 BENTLEY INSTRUCTION BOOK - OIL. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/KW28.12.34. I have noted your reasons for being confident in adopting this thin oil although it has only actually been through a complete 10,000 miles test. We are conscious of difficulty in starting as a general complaint, apart from those cases that we know of where the cars do not get a chance to charge up their batteries, and these are not very many. We suggest, therefore, that we should not broadcast these slips to all existing owners. It is quite all right to put them in the Instruction Book, but it does not seem right to me to send them round drawing customers' special attention to this matter. I presume you have no particular wish to send it round in view of the facts mentioned above, namely that there are very few complaints. It is in order, of course, to circulate it to Depots and Inspecting Engineers, so that they may give this advice should they receive complaints from owners. I would like your remarks on this point since you have sent down lists of cars on the road. C. | ||
