Procedure for cleaning oil from the water system after an oil cooler failure on a Phantom III vehicle.

METHOD OF CLEANING OUT OIL FROM WATER SYSTEM AFTER OIL COOLER FAILURE ON PH.III.

(1) Drain system, refit new cooler having cleaned out cooler box.
(2) Fill with water and warm up - drain and flush water through radiator from hose pipe.
(3) Fill with water.
(4) Remove steam valve tower complete with diaphragm assembly from radiator, leaving stand pipe in position.
(5) Fit dummy steam valve tower supplied for this purpose or use a standard steam valve tower and cover with no diaphragm or spring fitted and with holes in cover plugged up.
(6) Boil car fairly vigorously for 5-10 minutes by which time a good deal of water will have been lost via escape pipe.
(7) Add water to bring up to correct level and repeat (6).
(8) Repeat (6) and (7) until the water in the top tank appears quite free from oil.
(9) Drain and refill with clean water.
(10) Refit cars' own steam valve tower assembly, making sure that diaphragm valve and stand pipe seating are clean.
