| RECEIVED JUN 29 1927 Hls X8600 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C.Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} [strikethrough] BY16/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 28.6.27. RE SPARE WHEEL CARRIER. ----------------------- Referring to R3/M.24.6.27. it is certain that R.{Sir Henry Royce} will be, in the near future, hammering at us because the new spare wheel scheme for carrying at the rear is not in service. Although the scheme in question has been standardized, we are unable to use it until we have the correct scheme for carrying the spare wheel at the side when not in use at the rear. This scheme is embodied in N.Sch. 2420. and has been detailed and issued by BY/HEB.{H. Biraben} It is of the utmost importance that something should be done to try out this new scheme in order to decide whether it is satisfactory or not. The fact that the length of the arms carrying the wheel have been increased by approximately 3" in lifting the wheel practically out of the trough on the running board, throws more stress on to the parts. It is therefore quite certain that the conditions for the new spare wheel carrier differ from the standard type which we are considering coming on, and trouble may develop due to the increased bending moment on the arms and the frame.
