[Handwritten top center, underlined:] X.4430 To ROY {Sir Henry Royce} , from EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} c. to Hy. {Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} c. to RHC. {R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} c. to Mr. Gamble. EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 1/T6.12.21. X.4430 - PAPER OR SILK DIELECTRIC FOR GOSHAWK CONDENSER. Development of our experimental work in connection with the cheap manufacture of a satisfactory condenser for the Goshawk ignition has now arrived at a point where we would like you definitely to obtain for us for further experiment the following material :- 1. The minimum number of reels obtainable in one order, each reel containing a 250 yard length of oiled paper of .001" thickness x 1.100" width, in accordance with our specification dated 29.11.21. [Handwritten in right margin: 15yds 25yds 30 yds] We wish this paper to be of .001" thickness, so [Handwritten in right margin: Obtd] that in this instance we can experiment with building rolled condensers with twin dielectric. As regards the building of condensers of the size and shape to which this 29.11.21 specification refers, with single paper, .002" paper, of which we already have a considerable stock in our own Stores, can be tried. 2. The minimum number of reels obtainable, each reel containing 250 yards of strip tin or aluminium foil of .0005" thickness x .900" wide, suitable for our own use with either of the above alternative papers for the building up of rolled condensers of the Bosch size and shape. 3. The minimum number of reels obtainable, each of 25 yards length of .002" thickness oiled silk, as quoted by Messrs. The Ioco Rubber & Waterproofing Company Ltd., of width 2.500" and otherwise in accordance with our specification of 2.12.21. [Handwritten in right margin: Obtd] 4. The minimum number of reels obtainable each of 25 yards length of strip tin or aluminium foil which will be suitable for use with the above dielectric in building up rolled condensers of size and shape as recently instruct- ed {J. L. Edwards} by our Design Dept. As an alternative dielectric in making up such condensers, we can use the .002" oiled paper of which we have a considerable stock in our Stores. Contd. + .0005" thick by 2.300" wide. | ||
