-6139- E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} From Ha/Wat. c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Ha/Wat.5/MA.30.7.34. LUCAS HEADLAMP DIP SWITCHES TYPE FS{F. Steele}12. In accordance with your request we have tested on the bench a pair of the above type dipper switches. These switches were connected, one to a pair of 60 watt headlamp bulbs and the other to a pair of dipper coil units, thus representing the normal amount of work these switches would be called upon to undertake. The switches were tested for 50,000 times making and breaking and then dismantled for inspection, no failure being experienced on test. The switch making and breaking the 60 watt headlamp bulbs had worn the blade tips of its rotating contact fairly thin, otherwise there was no signs of excessive pitting. The same results apply to the second switch in a lesser degree. The wear on the switch appears to be largely due to the hammering and friction caused by the ratchet action of the switch and not to any over loading in respect of the current capacity of the switch. The switches are being handed to you herewith for your inspection. Ha/Wat. | ||
