OVERHEATING COMPLAINTS.

x ybb.

We consider we have carried out sufficient experimental tests now to be able to guarantee that we can overcome all complaints of overheating if we are allowed to use the most efficient type of matrix.

We know that some of our Service Stations abroad get some very bitter complaints of overheating and they get involved with considerable expense, and in the end do very little good and the customer is very dissatisfied. We attach herewith copy of a note which we have received from Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} which gives an example of one of the troubles. We recommend in this case that we should supply this owner with a radiator fitted with the Harrison type matrix, because if we do this we can be positive that his complaint will entirely disappear. We might compromise by fitting a radiator of the present type with small tubes, or a radiator with a Marston matrix, but we think the right thing to do is to fit what we know to be the most efficient.

At the moment the Harrison matrix is not in production in this country, but the Marston people under their patents are busy preparing to produce it. In the meantime they are prepared to supply radiators of this type by obtaining the material to produce the matrix from U.S.A.

Our recommendation is that we produce six or some number of P.2 radiators fitted with the Harrison matrix so that in cases of trouble we are in a position to supply a radiator which we know will overcome all boiling complaints. The matrix we are proposing is used on a great number of cars, we consider that justifies us as regards the life of the matrix being satisfactory. The only point we have to satisfy is the method of fitting it into our radiator shell. We have run a bump test with a 25 HP. radiator with the Marsden and Harrison matrix satisfactorily. The Peregrine car which is just going to France is fitted with a Marsden matrix.

This is a point which might be usefully discussed at our next meeting at Derby.
