I agree that the method by which this work should be done is that given in BJ's memo. of 23.2.27 as regards cards 'C' and 'D'.

But it should be done quickly enough to be effective in guarding our reputation - ie. it would not pay to do it 5 years hence.

Regarding card 'C' my own impression is that it would be still better if pitch of worm were still slightly slower, say .875" instead of .940" - i.e. 6.75% slower.

The price seems a fair estimate: there would be no difference in decreasing the pitch slightly as I here suggest.

Regarding card 'D' this items makes such a wonderful improvement, together with correcting the auto: advance, that it is well worth the cost, but £12 seems a big cost for fitting a new roller bearing throttle, even assuming a new casting is needed.

I do not think the countershaft ball bearings are proportionately of any importance, and I do not care whether these are fitted or not, but the specimen I remember had the plain bearings so badly fitted that these should be carefully examined (in our case the brackets were springing apart and causing much collar friction).

The two other cards regarding the 20 HP. steering i.e. stronger longitudinal tube and more damping, are both needed improvements.

The three (except 'D') add to the safety, and for this reason alone are urgent and necessary. I cannot agree to a slack way of getting it done, which I fear will happen.
