We will fit the brake lever when it duly arrives. We shall endeavour to bring about the same conditions with the new axle as we obtained with the one taken off. We are of the opinion that the wear of the ball races was due to continual braking after high speeds, and our reason is that the universal joints are not sufficiently universal for the winding up of the axle, and place a strain on the pinion bearing, so may be strong, but if we can reproduce the conditions again, on this axle, we shall of course have proved our theory. We give this reason, because after a certain period when our tests were finished, there has not been the amount of braking, and the housing since then has not got worse, a dynamometer test would not reproduce this effect.
